The Taras Shevchenko National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Ukraine (arch. V.Schrotter) was built in 1898-1901 in the forms of French Renaissance in place of the burnt down Municipal Theatre.
The Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University was founded in 1834 as the Imperial University of St. Volodymyr. The motto "Benefit, Honour and Glory” of the Order of St. Volodymyr (instituted in 1782) became the motto of this educational institution.

On May 7, 1905, in the northern part of the park Volodymyrska Hill, Funicular Railway was put into operation. It connected Volodymyrska Hill with Podil.
