Cherkasy city zoo was established in 1979 on the basis of zoo point of station for young naturalists, its area was 3,7 hectares.
By the opening the collection consisted of 86 animal species. Now in Cherkasy zoo there are animals of both local and exotic fauna: lions, bears, bisons, monkeys, camels and birds. There is a large terrarium. Animal collection has more than three thousand species, representatives of 282 species.
