The nature monument Corsac-Mohyla [Corsac Grave - tr.]

0 2 0

The upland occupies an area of about 100 hectares and consists of six outcrops on the surface of the rocks of the Azov crystalline massif. The geological age of the Corsac-Mohyla exceeds 1.8 billion years.

The Turkic word "kursak" or "korsak" means "fox". However, most linguists associate the name with the word "belly". Thus, Korsak-Grave can be safely called the Belly-Mountain.

At the end of the XIX century, the Corsac-Grave attracted the attention of geologists. In 1876, geological surveys were conducted here, establishing extensive deposits of iron ore. In 1893, attempts to extract minerals from the depths of Corsac-Mohyla were undertaken by the Russian-Belgian enterprise "Providence". To date, one of the hills has visible traces of their activities – pits.
