Pniv Castle

0 1 0

Built in the second half of the 16th century by the noble Kurapatwa family, this castle served not only as a military stronghold but also as a key economic hub of the region.

Constructed in the shape of an irregular pentagon, the castle was carefully designed for defense: massive stone walls up to 1.8 meters thick, five watchtowers equipped with loopholes, a wide water-filled moat, and a strategic location on the route to the Carpathians. Its architecture is a vivid example of medieval military engineering.

The history of the fortress recalls not only the Polish-Turkish conflicts but also an attack by the opryshky in 1621. It is said that this very fortress once functioned as a customs post — controlling major trade routes that crossed the Carpathians. Beside it grew a settlement that we now know as the town of Nadvirna.
