Sambir

0 2 0

The city has preserved unique landmarks from different eras: the remains of the 16th-century Sambir Castle, an impressive ensemble of stone buildings on Rynok Square, the old town hall, and churches that have become part of the region's spiritual identity. Notably, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary houses the relics of Saint Valentine and the miraculous icon of the Sambir Mother of God.

Sambir is also known for its role in the military and industrial history of the Lviv region, as well as being a tourist center that attracts visitors with its atmosphere, architecture, and historical relics. The city is the birthplace of renowned director and actor Les Kurbas, adding even more cultural significance to it.

The Old Slavic etymology of the name "Sambir" is associated with the word "pillar," referring to ancient defensive structures. This symbolically reflects the city's strength and resilience, which has preserved its character and uniqueness through the centuries.
