Solotvyno Lakes

0 2 0

These are a group of man-made lakes that formed on the site of former salt mines. The most famous among them is Lake Kunigunda, which appeared back in 1902 due to ground subsidence over a recently opened salt mine.

What makes the Solotvyno Lakes special is their extremely salty water — salinity reaches up to 200 ‰, allowing swimmers to float effortlessly, just like in the Dead Sea. Some lakes also contain iodine or freshwater. In summer, water temperatures rise to a comfortable 25–27 °C.

The lakes are known for their healing properties and have long been a popular balneological resort. Bathing in the salty water is recommended for musculoskeletal conditions, psoriasis, sciatica, and general wellness. In recent years, tourism infrastructure around the lakes has rapidly developed — with numerous sanatoriums, resorts, and guesthouses now welcoming visitors.
