Starokonny Market

0 2 0

Originally it was called the “Cattle Bazaar” and was established on the outskirts of the city as a specialized market for livestock trading. Later, animal trading was moved to another square, while the former bazaar retained the name Starokonny.

Over time, the market turned into a large trading area with small shops and stalls selling greens, fruits, bread, and other food products. Starokonny became especially famous as a bird market, where fish, birds, pets, and a wide variety of goods for their care were traditionally sold. A well-known flea market also formed nearby, where visitors can find many interesting and unusual items.

In 2004, the market was reconstructed, but its unique atmosphere was preserved. Today, Starokonny offers goods for fishing, tourism, repair, and construction. A special highlight remains the pavilions with aquarium fish, parrots, canaries, reptiles, and rodents, as well as sellers of cats and dogs, who can often be seen near the market on Raskidaivska Street.

Even today, Starokonny Market remains a place where the history of Odesa, lively trade, and the unique atmosphere of the old city come together.
