Cherkassy water tower is one of the first hiperboloyidn structures by engineer Vladimir Shukhov built in 1914, when the city used groundwater for water supply.
Then it played the role of the water tower and supplied water to a building 30 m heigh. In December 1944, during the Second World War, the Germans destroyed the tower when retreating from the city. After the war it was decided to rebuild a unique design. The tower was fully rebuilt only in 1949. In 1975 the city started using Dnipro river water and stopped using the tower. Today it is a unique architectural building, as only a little over 20 such towers remained out of 200, built Vladimir Shukhov.
