The museum opened in 1995 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
The museum is housed in the premises of the county council, reproduced according to ancient drawings of early nineteenth century. The total area of the museum - 770 m2, the exhibition consists of 10 rooms and has 1529 fixed asset items. Much of the museum's collection consists of works of Ukrainian art. The pride of the museum - a series of paintings "Hetman of Ukraine" Daniel Narbut - People's Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize. Taras Shevchenko.
