About the location

The museum was founded on the basis of a private collection of the outstanding Ukrainian patrons of art and collectors – the Khanenkos: Bohdan (1849-1917) and Varvara (1852-1922).

The museum preserves a valuable collection of paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, and items of applied art of the countries of Western Europe and East dating from the ancient times till the 19th century. The permanent exposition also displays a unique collection of Byzantine encaustic icons of the 6th-7th centuries. Today the museum collection includes more then 20,000 works of art.
