St. Nicholas Church, Lebedyn

0 2 0

St. Nicholas church in Lebedyn was built in 1890 by architect Volodymyr Nemkin, who designed many religious buildings in Kharkiv, according to other sources, the construction of the church should be dated 1912-1914. The church is a classic example of the popular at that time" brick style "that combines in itself elements of the Renaissance and Byzantine style. The church is cruciform in plan, the main role in the composition is played by a three-tiered bell tower. The building is generously decorated with decorative elements: cornices, arches and denticulums.

Initially, the temple was built of wood, and after that was bricked. In some places, an attentive observer can notice the traces of wooden walls. The main treasure of the church is the restored icon of St. Nicholas.

It is interesting: in the walls of the temple are kept real relics, by age several hundred years older than the church itself. For example, the bell was made in 1660.
