He was born in the Sumy region and became also known as an Orthodox saint (revered as Peter the Long-suffering).
The six-meter monument to Petro Kalnyshevsky was built on the project of Academician, People's Artist of Ukraine, Shevchenko Prize winner Anatoly Gaydamak and sculptor Petro Drozdovsky. The Cossack commander is depicted as a horse rider.
