The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Sumy was restored in 1957 on the site of the old destroyed concrete monument of the work of Ivan Kavaleridze. This monument shows the poet sitting and is located in Shevchenko park.
The unbending spirit of the poet, his steel will and faith in his people with amazing accuracy was conveyed and recreated by the authors of the monument – the sculptor Y. Krasnozhon and the architect M. Makhonko. They were able to accurately depict not only the features of Taras, but also his mental state. Sadness cloud his face, heavy thoughts cloud his eyes.
The monument to Shevchenko in Sumy impresses with its grandeur and monumentality. It is a 2.5 m high bronze figure of Kobzar, mounted on a stepped 4-meter granite pedestal.
