Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Botanical Garden

The garden serves as an educational and research institution of the university and is included in the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine as a site of national significance.

The botanical garden consists of two sections. The old section on Kyryla and Mefodiia Street, founded in 1852 on the site of the former garden of the Trinitarian monks, is located on the slopes of Kalicha Hill and contains greenhouses and an arboretum. The newer section on Cheremshyny Street was established in 1911 on the basis of the decorative garden Tsetnerivka and occupies a much larger area with a complex landscape, a pond, meadows, and forested areas.

Thanks to the diverse natural conditions, fragments of various biotopes have been recreated here — from ponds and wetlands to forest-steppe landscapes and the vegetation of the Carpathians. Despite losses during the Second World War, the garden was restored and today remains an important scientific center for plant research and conservation.
