Memorial sign "Cossack cross to fighters for freedom" was opened in Sumy in the summer of 2017. The ceremony was attended by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. According to him, the cross symbolizes the connection of different generations of defenders of Ukraine.
The architect of the Cossack Cross says that he tried to inspire himself with the history of the Cossacks who defended these lands and embody it in modern times. It symbolizes the memory of the Cossack soldiers, who died a long time ago, and the Ukrainian servicemen who defend the state and perished in the course of anti-terrorist operation in the eastern Ukraine.
