Literary and Memorial House-Museum of Taras Shevchenko (“House in Priorka”)

0 3 0

Taras Shevchenko lived here for two weeks in summer in 1859 during his last journey to Ukraine. He was living in a small house on the Vyshgorodska, 5 street. He rented the room in this house. The owner of the house, whose name was Varvara Pashkovska, had left the memoires «The couple words about Taras Shevchenko» that was printed in 1875 in St. Petersburg’s magazine «Pchela» by her sister Stephania Krapivina.

The museum «Khata on Prioka» has been created with open exposition in it without any barriers between showpieces and viewers. In the museum has been reconstituted the everyday life of Kiev citizens in the middle of the nineteenth century. You can leaf through the albums with unique old photos and postcards, become acquainted with life and works of Taras Shevchenko’s friends in Kiev, for instance, photographer Ivan Gudovkyi, pedagogues Mykhailo Chalyi and Ivan Yuskevych-Krasytskyi, artists Ivan Soshenko and Oleksii Senchyla-Stefanovskyi, priests Yukhum Botvynovkyi and Petro Lebedyntsev. In addition, you can have an eco-trip from «Khata on Priorca» to the Shevchenko’s four hundred years old oak. The museum can offer the manual excursion for people with visual impairment. Therefore, in the museum «Khata on Priorka» you can feel the spirit of Kiev in the nineteenth century and better understand the everyday life of our Kobzar Taras Shevchenko.
