Mariyinsky Park

In 1944, General M.Vatutin was buried at this park. He was the Army Commander of the 1st Ukrainian Front forces that liberated Kyiv from the Nazi invaders on November 6. The monument to General Vatutin was erected in 1948 (sculptor Ye.Vuchetich).

At Mariyinsky Park there are two more burial places. Those are the common graves of the participants of the two revolutions that shook the country in the early 20th century. A simple mourning urn on the black marble pedestal (1949, architect Z.Chechyk) is the monument to the participants of the October 1917 Revolution. In the other grave are the remains of more than 700 people. Nearby the grave is the monument to the participants of the January 1918 Uprising — a bronze statue of a worker-Bolshevik with a banner in his hand, standing on the high pedestal (1967, sculptors V.Vy­naikin and V.Klimov, architect V.Gnezdilov).
