Monument to Mammoth

Monument to the mammoth in Kuleshivka village was created back in 1841 and for a long time remained the only monument in the world dedicated to this prehistoric animal.

About the place

The monument was erected in honor of an accidental finding of mammoth bones that were sent to Kharkiv University (a giant skeleton of an animal was laid out of bones, which can now be seen in the Kharkiv Historical Museum).

The monument also recalls the border between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Moscow Kingdom, which took place exactly in this place.

Скромный памятник в красивом месте. Рядом есть беседка для отдыха, все это на берегу озера у дороги, есть парковка. Рядом часовня. Мамонта там нет, но сам памятник можно считать историей, ведь он там с 1841 года.
