The monument was erected in 2000 in honor of the animals that saved the people of this land from hunger. The Romny monument to a pig became the fourth such a monument in the world.
About the place
The location of the monument used to be an ancient city during the Mongol-Tatar invasion of Kievan Rus. Historians have established that the city was subjected to cruel raids and robbery, which doomed the inhabitants to starvation. However, pigs were not taken from the population. It was their numerous bones that were found on this site. This testifies to the salutary role played by these animals in the life of the Ukrainian people.
