Kyrylo Hryhorovych Stetsenko Memorial Museum Complex is the reconstruction of the house where the eminent composer, choral conductor, educator, statesman, and public figure, as well as the protoiereus of the UAOC Kyrylo Hryhorovych Stetsenko, lived. The museum estate will captivate you with its authenticity and coziness. You'll discover authentic interiors, personal belongings of the Stetsenko family, musical instruments, original unique compositions by the composer, music by Ukrainian composers, an apple orchard, and vibrant flowerbeds.
In 1920, at the request of the local community who desired a Ukrainian priest, Kyrylo was invited to lead their parish in Veprik. Stetsenko spent two years in Veprik, during which time the cultural life of the village flourished. He established a village and children's choir, assisted the local drama group, and even delivered lectures at a university in the capital. Under his guidance, the choir performed concerts not only in the region but throughout Kyiv Oblast. Unfortunately, Kyrylo Hryhorovych Stetsenko passed away in 1922 due to typhoid, an epidemic that was spreading across Ukraine at that time. As he requested, the composer was buried near the walls of the Church of St. Paraskevi.
Only in 1969, through the initiative of a local resident and an ardent admirer of the renowned composer's work, Volodymyr Kosovsky, a small museum room was opened in the village club building. Then, in 1982, a memorial museum estate was established in the house where Stetsenko had lived during his final years. Inside the house, you can see Kyrylo Hryhorovych's belongings — his bed, a table he crafted himself, towels embroidered by his wife, as well as a splendid collection of antique icons and books.
So, visit the Stetsenko Museum Estate, where you'll learn many intriguing facts about the worthy successor of Mykola Lysenko and have the opportunity to listen to his recordings. And, of course, take a moment to honor the memory of this outstanding individual with a moment of silence at his grave, which is located on the grounds of the village church.
